What style toolbox do I need to have for the "BOX BUDDY" to fit correctly? You need a toolbox that meets the following criteria:
1) An Over the Rail Type Toolbox
2) The Toolbox must be a minumum of 19 inches wide and a maximum of 21 inches ride (measured at the point it sits on the side rail...not the lid).
3) Your tool box latches cannot be below the top of the side rails of your truck. In other words, the latches need to be higher than the "plane" of your truck bed rails for the cover to work with your toolbox. Back to Top
How do you create the seal between the front of the cover and the back edge of the toolbox? With your "BOX BUDDY" you will recieve an "L-shaped" piece of metal called the "BULKHEAD PLATE" that is designed to fit the exact and entire width of your specific truck right behind the toolbox and between the side rails. This bulkhead plate is positioned to fit right up against the back of your toolbox. On each side of the bulkhead plate, there is a vertical metal plate attached that fits up against the side rail of your truck. While pushing the plate snugly against the toolbox, you simply clamp the bulkhead plate in postion. The bulkhead plate is specially coated to ensure there is never a rust problem and has tough clear protective plastic on the flat edge that comes in contact with the inside of your truck rail to ensure that it will not scratch your truck when clamped to the side rail. Why is EPDM rubber used in this seal? Because this is the highest quality seal that can be used in this application. This is the same quality rubber that is used in weather stripping around the doors of your vehicle. Back to Top
I have a "Diamond Plate" cut toolbox. Will the EPDM seal completely seal out water when pressed up against my toolbox? EPDM does take the form of all surfaces it encounters very well. However, if you wish to ensure that water never enters at that point, we strongly suggest that you use 100% silicone to seal where the EPDM seal and the toolbox meets to create seal that is impervious to the elements. Please note that the seal is very good in most cases without silicone. However, if you wish to make the best weather resistant seal possible, you simply use silicone as a sealant between the bulkhead plate EPDM Seal and the toolbox. Back to Top
I would like to seal all edges around my toolbox. Are there any suggestions? There are a number of options out there to create a good seal where your toolbox comes in contact with your truck. We do not have any "best practices" experience in this regard as all toolboxes and installations are different. However, we suggest that you go to your local Home Depot or Hardware store for suggestions that might work best for your specific toolbox installation. Back to Top
